Remember the 1980s soap Dynasty?
Imagine a more serious corporate version, with no outraged slapping or steamy sex scenes (not yet), but plenty of highly-charged family drama.
Brian Cox – the actor, not the scientist, obviously – plays media magnate Logan Roy, who is about to celebrate his 80th birthday.
Everyone is awaiting the big announcement of his retirement, with his son and heir Kendall (Jeremy Strong) in a permanent state of anxiety about finally getting the big job. He’s not doing that well, though. As the drama begins, a deal falls apart.
“Do you want to call your dad?” asks one (un)helpful colleague.
Kendall’s day gets worse. Logan shocks his family by making a rather different announcement – he’s staying on as CEO of his media conglomerate Waystar/ Royco.
To say tempers flare would be an understatement.
Also starring Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen, Alan Ruck and Sarah Snook, this is a compelling drama about power, politics, money and family.
