VOICE OF THE MIRROR:

THE terrifying ease with which our reporter bought highly-corrosive acid online underlines the need for ministers and web retailers to get their act together.

The Government is committed to changing the law, but the internet usually finds a way to evade checks and rules governing “real life”.

Big supermarkets have already imposed a blanket ban on sales to children.

Ministers need to speed up their own crackdown on under-18s buying acid, and drastically cut the sale of sulphuric acid so only those with a legitimate licence can purchase it.

We need tough action to tackle the yobs who casually carry a potentially lethal weapon as they roam our towns and cities.

These acids can blind, maim and – as we saw in Joanne Rand’s case – kill.

Her three children lost their mum when she became an accidental victim of this scourge.

Hundreds have been left horrifically scarred by thoughtless thugs armed with drain cleaner.

What more evidence do we need that there is no time to waste in curbing this menace in our midst – especially online?
