Shock at NHS surgery plan

THE NHS head of GP services says there are “too many” smaller practices, despite closures forcing a million patients to find new doctors.

Dr Arvind Madan, NHS England’s head of primary care, wants them “rationalis­ed” into bigger centres.

Dr Zoe Norris of the BMA’s GPs’ committee was “surprised and disappoint­ed” at this first time an NHS boss has suggested surgery closures are part of a national policy.
