BB providers forced to cut speed claims
BROADBAND companies have slashed misleading advertised speeds by up to 41% after a rules shake-up.
Which? found six big firms, including BT, Sky and Plusnet, had to drop speeds sold in deals as “up to” 17Mbps to 10Mbps.
Since May’s Advertising Standards Authority move, 11 firms failed tests and advertised speeds were down an average 15%.
Claims of up to 76Mbps by the Post Office, SSE, TalkTalk, Utility Warehouse and Vodafone were downgraded to 63Mbps.
New rules mean 50% of users must be able to get speeds at an “up to” level as opposed to 10% previously.
Alex Neill of Which? said: “Customers will have a clearer idea of speeds when shopping around.”
