MAIDEN TO BOWL ’EM OVER

- BY DAVE MITCHELL

WE could see the Sun come out for Sir Michael Stoute at Goodwood today.

The trainer (below) has had a quiet week following his Ascot heroics of last Saturday when he won a record sixth King George.

But his SUN MAIDEN is the type of late maturing horse he specialises in, and this St Leger entry is clearly improving judged on her most recent effort in the Ribblesdale.

Derby runner-up Dee Ex Bee is clear on official ratings but isn’t going to improve on that, having flattened out since.

Cross Cannon needs to step up on his handicap efforts, so Sun Maiden is the one to be on.

SPRING LOADED may be a little highly drawn and weighted to be an ideal Stewards’ Cup candidate, but his chance must be respected following his recent Ascot romp.

With only two outings to his name this season he’s too lightly raced to be ideal but is clearly improving.
