JEREMY Corbyn’s belated response to the anti-Semitism crisis is a first step towards repairing the damage inflicted on Labour’s relationship with Jews.

It seems the party leader has finally appreciated the harm caused by the mounting row. It should not and need not have ever got this far.

Earlier this week we called for him to stand up to his supporters who direct hateful abuse at the Jewish community.

Now he has broken his silence. Critics will doubtless call it too little, too late. There will be sympathy for that view in some quarters.

But it is a move in the right direction and that is to be welcomed.
