Pep promises to get tough with any City slackers as season kicks off

- BY RICHARD TANNER

PEP GUARDIOLA has warned his record-breaking champions he will not tolerate any slackers as he bids for back-to-back titles.

And the Manchester City boss (right) has vowed to be far tougher on his players in a bid to buck the trend of Premier League champions suffering a dip in the season after finishing top of the pile.

As he prepared his side for tomorrow’s FA Community Shield clash with FA Cup winners Chelsea, he said: “I’ll try to repeat what we did at

Barcelona and Bayern and be harder with my players.

“If after winning the title they are thinking, ‘OK... we’re really good’, that’s the moment we start to go down.

“At Barca and Bayern we were able to win back to back.

“Here, it’s more complicated because of the contenders – all the teams are good. But if I felt we cannot improve I would not be here.”
