‘Drone bombs bid’ to kill El Presidente
..but was it a gas blast?
DRONES carrying bombs were used in an assassination attempt on Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro, it is claimed.
But doubts were last night cast on the “attack” as no drones were captured by TV cameras and fire crews said there had been a gas blast.
The leftist leader looked up startled as explosions occurred during a speech to troops on live TV.
The president’s wife, Cilia, cowered as hundreds of National Guard, soldiers, celebrating their 81st anniversary, ran away in terror.
Mr Maduro, 55, said: “That drone was coming for me but there was a shield of love.” The president, who succeeded Hugo Chavez in the South American state, was bundled away by guards in Caracas.
Seven National Guard soldiers were injured.
Mr Maduro blamed the ultra-right and enemies in Colombia and the US.
