As the sitcom about a Midlands family returns, everything has gone a bit La La Land.
Crowds are dancing in the street, there is over-zealous high fiving and upbeat music.
Dale (Twilight’s Taylor Lautner) is in such relationship bliss with Rachel (Esther Smith) that his life seems to have turned into a musical. “It’s a beautiful day isn’t it!” he chirps. His unending glee is so not British. But that’s what makes his character so brilliant – a syrupy-sweet childlike American plonked slap-bang into the sarcasm and glass half-empty outlook of Rachel’s dad Ken (Greg Davies) and his family.
Ken is actually having a pretty good day too – he’s been nominated for Lichfield Lawyer of the Year. But his joy doesn’t last long as smug colleague Jane probably has the award in the bag. His wife Lorna (Helen Baxendale) tries to think of a solution.
With a great cast and punchy script, it’s fab to see this back.
