Stop acid tragedies
FA bosses have told Gareth Southgate they can’t pay him the “big” money (Mirror, Aug 2).
So it seems he will have to get by on his current £1.7million-a-year salary. I so feel for him! Sam Johnson, Blackpool

I worked as an analytical chemist for 43 years. As a student, I accidentally spilt concentrated sulphuric acid on my arm. Luckily, I got to a water tap within 15 seconds, but I still remember the excruciating pain.
