Saints end big spend
MARK HUGHES says Southampton’s summer spending splurge is over after failing to land Lille defender Kevin Malcuit.
Boss Hughes was willing to fork out £18million, but the full-back is joining Italian club Napoli instead.
Hughes, who has already lavished £51m on four new signings, said: “We are probably at a point where we are not likely to do any more business.”
Saints are still looking to offload £65,000-a-week England goalkeeper Fraser Forster, who is now third choice behind Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy.
Hughes said: “Fraser is looking at options really.
“From his point of view he needs to get back playing.”
