Today’s photo shows US Vice President Richard Nixon addressing reporters at London’s Victoria Station. Nixon and his wife Pat were in Britain for a four-day official visit. Fifty years ago today, Nixon was nominated as the Republican Party’s presidential candidate. He was elected as the 37th US president in 1969 but his long political career was left in tatters after he was forced out in 1974 amid the Watergate scandal.
