One hit wonder

-

GOT a rice cooker, bread maker, slow cooker and a pressure cooker?

If you have all these, you’ll find yourself rapidly running out of cupboard space.

Many of us are now investing in multi-cookers – machines that do a variety of jobs.

One, the Instant Pot, was sold out for months. It’s available again now, so Judy Yorke tested it – and five others:

Pressure King Pro (£69.99, highstreettv.com)

This 12-function pressure cooker – which is also a slow cooker, rice cooker and more – comes with clear instructions, so it’s perfect for newbies. There are online videos in case you get stuck, and the machine itself is straightforward to use. I made chilli con carne and chicken tikka masala – both were fast and tasty. There’s also a browning function. Verdict: Impressive, simple and a great price. 9.5/10

(£109, Amazon, pre-order available)

The queen bee of multi-cookers, this pressure cooker/rice cooker/slow cooker and more has achieved cult status.

It comes with very clear instructions and a recipe book – more recipes are available online. It’s simple to use, though I found getting the lid to lock tricky.

My coconut chicken curry with the pressure cooker function took 10 minutes to reach the right pressure and seven minutes to cook. When it had finished, it switched to “keep warm” mode. I was worried it would be tepid by the time we ate it six hours later, but it was tender, succulent and perfectly hot. Verdict: Great size, super-speedy and easy to use, but a bit pricey. 9/10
