Labour whip is facing court over ‘false speeding details’
A SENIOR Labour MP responsible for discipline is accused of lying about who was driving a speeding vehicle.
Peterborough MP Fiona Onasanya, a Labour whip, pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice by conspiring with her brother to avoid penalty points.
The 34-year-old, and Festus Onasanya, 33, are alleged to have given Cambridge police false information in July last year. They say a man called Aleks Antipow was at the wheel, the Old Bailey heard. Festus, a gospel singer of Chesterton, Cambridge, faces two further similar charges over separate speeding incidents in June and August last year. Ms Onasanya, a solicitor before her election to Parliament, has tweeted: “I strongly refute suggestions I have broken the law.” The trial is due in November.
