ENGLAND rugby union star Danny Cipriani spent last night in a cell after being charged with assaulting a police officer outside a bar. DISGUSTING

The 30-year-old was also charged with common assault, larceny, resisting arrest and being disorderly on licensed premises in the early hours of Wednesday.

A witness claimed Cipriani was wrestled to the ground by three officers at 1am after he tried to leave the Royal Yacht Hotel in Saint Helier, Jersey, carrying two bottles of vodka he had allegedly swiped.

After his arrest it is claimed he told officers: “These wrists are gold, loosen the cuffs.”

Cipriani, who has dated TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher and models Kelly Brook and Katie Price, was remanded in custody after being charged yesterday and is due to appear in court at 10am today.

The star was in Jersey with his Gloucester teammates, who were said to have been enjoying a pub crawl as they prepared for the new season.

Describing the arrest, a source claimed: “They [the police] had to wrestle him to the ground before putting him in a van. You can easily reach over the bar and pick the bottles up. “He did and then tried to walk out without paying. “He was hammered and had been drinking for hours. He should know better, there’s just no excuse.

“It was disgusting behaviour. Security grabbed him and then police were called but it took three of them to drag him down. He tried to barge through them.”

Just a day before his arrest, Cipriani posted a picture on Instagram of the rugby squad out for dinner.

Teammate Ruan Ackermann, 22, also shared a video of Cipriani enjoying a drink and checking his phone. It was captioned: “Having a few brother.”

Jersey Police said: “This afternoon 30-year-old Daniel Cipriani was charged with common assault, larceny, assault on police, resisting arrest and being disorderly on licensed premises. He’s been remanded in custody until his court appearance.”

The fly-half recently joined Gloucester and returned to the England side this summer.

His club said it was aware of the incident.

It is not the first time Cipriani has been in trouble with the law. In 2016 he was banned from the road for 18 months for drink-driving.

In 2013 he was hit by a bus during a pub crawl in Leeds, escaping with cuts and bruises.

Cipriani’s agent has been contacted for comment.
