Fears All Hours to shut up shop

-

THE shop thought to have inspired Open All Hours could shut after complaints that the pavement display was causing problems for mobility scooter drivers.

John Riddiford, 53, got a visit from council officials in Thornbury, Glos, after someone reported his shop LE Riddiford, for having goods outside like Arkwright’s in the Ronnie Barker sitcom.

John, who runs the store with son Oliver, said: “The officer asked if we could move some goods away from the kerb. We’re full to burst in here. Our only option is to put things outside.”

On Facebook, John wrote: “Is it time for major change, relocation or maybe just call it a day?”

More than 2,400 people have signed a petition backing him, but South Gloucestershire Council leader Toby Savage said a “suitable solution” was found. It is thought writer Roy Clarke came up with the idea for Open All Hours after shopping at LE Riddiford.
