In Tuesday’s article How We Get Back On Track, Christian Wolmar asserts that the Office of Rail and Road told Network Rail to cut timetable staff and felt it “an unnecessar­y luxury”.

At no point did we tell Network Rail to specifical­ly cut its timetablin­g staff. Added to this, for Network Rail’s 2019-2024 plans, we have approved extra resources and budget for the timetablin­g function. Chris Hemsley, ORR Deputy Director for Railway Markets and Economics

How can anyone compile a list of the most influentia­l women who changed the world (Mirror, August 9) without putting Queen Elizabeth I in the top 10?

She’s our greatest Queen who ruled alone for over 40 years and made England a great country, saving us from the Spanish Armada. Rosemary Ball Brighton
