RBS ‘worst service’
Bailed out Royal Bank of Scotland has been branded the worst for customer service.
RBS, which was saved from collapse during the financial crisis of 2008, was ranked joint bottom in a banking league table published yesterday. Fewer than half of its customers said they would recommend it t o others.
The Competition and Markets Authority surveyed 16,000 customers about 16 of the UK’s largest current account providers.
Joint bottom was Clydesdale, closely followed by The Co-operative, HSBC, Bank of Scotland and TSB.
First Direct came top with 85% of customers saying they are satisfied.
The CMA brought in new rules yesterday forcing banks to publish information on how likely customers would be to recommend them.
Details must be shown prominently in branches, online and through apps.
Adam Land, senior director at the CMA, said: “For the first time, people will now be able to easily compare banks on the quality of the service they provide.”
Earlier this week RBS told the City it would pay its first dividend to shareholders in 10 years.
