Admiral is rewarding 10,000 of its staff with another £1,800 worth of its shares.

The thank-you came as it posted a rise in half-year profits after the insurer saw strong growth in customer numbers. It also weathered a storm of claims linked to February’s Beast from the East.

The Cardiff-based group, which owns brands including Elephant and Confused.com, saw profits rise 9% to £211million in the six months to June 30.
