Blues’ too Rich price
EVERTON admit they paid over the odds for Richarlison because of the bad blood with Watford.
The Goodison side spent £40million on the striker, who scored twice on his debut last weekend.
But Marcel Brands, Everton’s director of football, said: “I think, with Watford, we had to pay a bit more. Maybe the market value was a little bit lower, but we are happy with him.
“We thought it would be a very difficult one because of the history of the clubs.”
Brands also claimed Barcelona’s Yerry Mina only had eyes for Everton.
He moved to Goodison for £27.1million on deadline day after Manchester United allegedly baulked at his agent’s fees.
But Brands said: “I don’t know if Man United were in. The player said constantly, ‘I want to go to Everton’.”
Nikola Vlasic has joined CSKA Moscow on loan.
