Plastic taxes on way after public outcry
CHANCELLOR Philip Hammond is set to announce new taxes to tackle plastic pollution.
It comes after 162,000 people responded to a Government call for ideas about slashing waste.
The Treasury could use tax to encourage manufacturers to use plastics that are easier to recycle.
Fewer than 1% of coffee cups used by high street chains are reprocessed.
Greenpeace’s Louise Edge said: “The so-called latte levy on disposable coffee cups seems inevitable now.
“This is a public mandate to end the age of throwaway plastic.”
