Wembley way OK for Spurs

-

DON’T rush into that shiny new stadium, Tottenham – Wembley’s not been so unkind to you.

Spurs revealed earlier this week that their 62,000-seater ground in north London won’t be ready until late October, and they will continue to play at the national stadium while the builders and safety contractors finish the job.

But after a sticky start, Mauricio Pochettino’s side made themselves at home as Wembley tenants. Chelsea and Manchester City were the only teams to win there in the Premier League last season and there were memorable wins against Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Far from being an upheaval, I don’t think an extended stay at Wembley will damage their chances of a top-four finish. And if they do miss out, I’ll be looking at their failure to sign any new players in the transfer window more than the removal men.

In my book it doesn’t matter where Spurs play – I reckon they are heading for another season without winning a trophy.
