Search party sent out for mountain rescue dog
REUNITED Mick and Dave A TEAM of 25 volunteers formed a search party when their mountain rescue dog went missing and found him in his owner’s local pub.
Dave, a 13-month-old border collie, was being trained to help rescue lost climbers on moorland near Oldham, Gtr Manchester, when he went missing himself.
Owner Mick Nield and the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team combed the area and put a plea for information on Facebook that got 1,000 shares. An hour later, Mick, 52, heard Dave had been spotted at The Wellington pub, in Greenfield, half a mile from the training base.
Mick, who was made an MBE for services to mountain rescue, said: “I went down to investigate.
“Dave came sauntering out to me. He looked as if he hadn’t missed me at all, as if he was saying, ‘Oh, you got here then’.”
