Patience was Waring thin

ENGLAND’S Paul Waring finally struck gold on the European Tour – at his 200th attempt.

Waring was taken to a play-off at the Nordea Masters in Sweden by playing partner Thomas Aiken, who was chasing a fourth title, before clinching victory with a par at the first extra hole.

The 33-year-old from Birkenhead, pocketing a cheque for £225,000, said: “I wasn’t sure this day would ever come.

“I’ve tried so hard for many years to get to this point and it’s nice to finally get across the line and be holding the trophy. I felt really in control.”
