“They had more hunger than us. I put myself first, that my attitude wasn’t right enough. We made mistakes we shouldn’t.

“It was definitely not good enough. It’s twice in a row that we’ve lost against Brighton and that shouldn’t happen.

“Last year we had almost the same attitude as today and it’s not right. I should have done much better, make less mistakes and control the game.

“Today was a bad performanc­e from all of us. We have to wake up for the next game.

“The fans should be very mad today. We are. Everybody is very mad.”

Centre-backs Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof endured a horror show and Mourinho said: “I was not expecting big mistakes.”
