Sweethearts to wed ..after 60 years apart
YOUNG sweethearts who were reunited after 60 years apart will be tying the knot next month.
Ruth Holt, 79, could not believe her eyes when she saw Ron Owen, 84, playing music in their housing complex’s communal hall.
They met working in an office in the late 50s and dated for a year but went their separate ways. Ron became a cruise ship entertainer, performing as Ronnie Ray, while Ruth wed and lived in Dubai and India before returning to Britain. She divorced in 1983.
Ron had moved into a bungalow in St Annes, Lancs, just two weeks before their 2014 chance meeting.
Ruth had never forgotten Ron. She said: “I thought the world of him when we were together. He was always the one for me.
“I had been on my own for more than 20 years and it is so nice to have someone.”
He proposed in July and now they are preparing for a church wedding with 50 friends and family, including Ruth’s two sons and four grandchildren.
