Illnesses from US ticks and mosquitoes triple
Not only are we seeing more tick-borne illnesses, especially Lyme disease, in this country, but there has been an alarming rise in the US. Three times more Americans fell ill from a mosquito-borne or tick-borne disease in 2016 than in 2004, some 96,075 cases to be exact, up from 27,388 in 2004.
A recent spike was driven by an outbreak of the Zika virus, but a long-term rise has been seen in tickborne illnesses generally, especially Lyme disease.
