‘Gig’ couriers are road risks
TIME pressures on minicab drivers and couriers working in the gig economy puts them at “significant” risk of road accidents, a study shows.
University College London found 63% of drivers and couriers on zero-hours contracts are not trained to manage risks on the road.
Around 65% are not given safety gear such as high-visibility jackets.
Louise Palomino, of the Road Safety Trust, said: “An inquiry into the gig economy and road safety is needed urgently.”
