Model Twiggy is pictured wearing the latest hippie garb before she flew to America later that day for a modelling assignment.

Brought up in a working class family in Neasden, North West London, 16-year-old Twiggy, whose real name was Lesley Hornby, was voted British Woman of the Year in 1966.

Her big eyes, long eyelashes and short hair made her one of the top models of the 1960s and often saw her on the covers of Vogue and Tatler.
