1936: American Wilt Chamberlain, one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the NBA, was born. He became the first man to score 100 points in a single game when the Philadelphia Warriors defeated the New York Knicks 169-147 in March 1962. He died in 1999 aged 63.
1965: Charlton’s Keith Peacock was the first substitute to be used in a Football League game when he came on for Mick Rose against Bolton.
1992: Tottenham complained to the Football Association over reported comments by referee Dermot Gallagher, who was quoted as saying that he had booked Gordon Durie for feigning injury to get an opponent sent off.
