Pope to talk to victims of priest abuse

- BY RACHAEL BLETCHLEY Chief Feature Writer

POPE Francis will meet victims of sex abuse by priests on his visit to Ireland at the weekend.

The Vatican confirmed victims would be free to divulge what was said.

It comes after the Pontiff wrote an unprecedented letter to the world’s Catholics attacking the “atrocities” of child sex abuse and vowing no more cover-ups.

But in Ireland, victims were angered that the Pope did not set out measures to bring abusive priests to justice.

Protesters are planning rallies to coincide with his two-day visit to Dublin.

The Irish charity One in Four supports those affected. It said: “It would be terribly hurtful if the meeting produced no concrete outcome.”
