Bear’s fish skin feet are a sight for paw eyes...

-

THIS bear’s pain must have been off the scales when her paws were badly burnt in a wildfire.

But the cub is recovering well after vets used fish skins to repair her damaged feet. She is the third bear ever to have the treatment, where sterilized tilapia skins are stitched over injured tissue.

The bear could not walk when she was found in a pile of ash on August 2, amid the ongoing Carr fire in northern California. Staff from the REST Cub naps California Department of Fish and Wildlife took her for treatment.

Kirsten Macintyre, of CDFW, said: “Tilapia bandages keep pressure on the wound, keep bacteria out, have natural healing properties and will not hurt the animal if they ingest it.”
