MILBURN’S MILLIONS
CASH RICH Alan Milburn A firm owned by former Labour health secretary Alan Milburn has amassed assets of £5.1million.
Accounts for AM Strategy show £4.6m of that was in the form of cash, up from £3.8m in the space of a year.
Milburn, 60, who quit as chairman of the Prime Minister’s Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission last December, has built up a lucrative consultancy business in the private sector. The accounts, filed at Companies House, show AM Strategy made just over £1m in profit last year, down from £1.2m in 2017.
But it paid £178,846 in dividends to its two directors – Milburn and his wife, Dr Ruth Briel – up from £127,236 the previous year.
Milburn, who stood down as an MP in 2010, is also an adviser to Bridgepoint Capital, a large private provider to the NHS.
Reports earlier this year said private equity firm Bridgepoint was exploring a sale of Care UK, a provider of care for older people who have learning disabilities and mental health problems.
