50% backing ban on diesel

HALF of drivers think diesel cars should be barred from some roads in the wake of the VW emissions cheating scandal.

Some 29% back a total ban and 23% want built-up areas to be no-go zones.

And 79% support a ban near schools and hospitals in the survey by lawyers Slater and Gordon, which is suing VW on behalf of 45,000 UK drivers.

Many diesel owners believed they were buying greener vehicles, but “were sold a lie”, the firm claimed.
