‘TIP ROBBERY’ STRIKE

Workers at three branches of TGI Fridays will walk out this bank holiday weekend in a protest over what their union is calling “tip robbery”.

A new tipping policy launched in January sees money earned by the waiting staff redirected to top up the low wages of kitchen staff.

Unite the Union says this has left its members £250 a month poorer.

TGI, which runs 81 restaurants in the UK, is reported to have awarded chief executive Karen Forrester a 40% pay rise, taking her package to £365,420. It did not respond to requests for comment.
