Corbyn wants media shake-up to tackle power of tech giants
JEREMY Corbyn has unveiled radical ideas to shake up the media and take on the power of the tech giants.
The Labour leader said a state-run digital platform could counter Facebook, Amazon and Netflix.
A British Digital Corporation would be a sister organisation to the BBC, hosting social media, broadcast programmes and pro- viding public information. At the Edinburgh TV Festival Mr Corbyn also called for editors to be elected by journalists “when a title or programme gets particularly large and influential”. Another idea was a tax on tech giants to fund journalism. He claimed “our media is failing” when it comes to news and current affairs and said most “of our citizens think our newspapers churn out fake news day in, day out”.
