Racing games are dime-a-dozen, and many titles overload you with superfluous frills in an attempt to bring some flair to the genre.

With Codemasters’ F1 2018, that flair is stripped back and what is left is a finely-tuned engine with a lot of moving parts.

The racing has a real weight to it which should come naturally to any players regardless of ability or knowledge of the F1 circuit. What’s impressive though is just how customisable this is. Any minor changes made to your car can be felt almost instantaneously, but the real challenge comes with knowing what parts need tweaks to secure a better chance of the podium.

If you’re a fan of Formula 1, or even if you’ve only given it a cursory glance when it’s on in the pub, there’s a lot to enjoy here.
