MARK OF DISTINCTION
YESTERDAY’S RESULTS AND PRICES
MARK JOHNSTON made turf history as Britain’s most prolific trainer when Poet’s Society triumphed at York to give the Scot a 4,194th career victory.
The four-year-old defied odds of 20-1 with an all-the-way success under Frankie Dettori in the Clipper Logistics Handicap to edge Johnston past Richard Hannon snr, with whom he has shared the record since Saturday.
“It’s such a relief to get it out of the way. It was becoming very frustrating,” said Johnston (left). “I have to pinch myself and say, ‘How could you get to 4,194 winners?’ From where we started, it was just unimaginable.”
SEA OF CLASS, trained by William Haggas, is as low as 4-1 for the Arc in October after routing her rivals in the Yorkshire Oaks.
John Gosden’s impressive Galtres Stakes winner Lah Ti Dar is now 4-1 from 14s for next month’s St Leger.
