STEWART DOWNING hasn’t felt the way he does about a manager since Gareth Southgate was in charge of Middlesbrough.

Under boss Tony Pulis, Downing (above) has just notched up his 300th start for his hometown club.

And he said: “Tony’s probably the first manager since Gareth who’s really rated me when he came in.”

Downing is a certain starter tonight when Pulis faces West Brom for the first time since they fired him last season.

“I’m playing for someone who’s made it clear I’m a big part of his plans,” he added. “I haven’t felt like this since Gareth was boss.”
