McCain quits cancer care

US politician John McCain has decided to discontinue treatment for brain cancer.

The 81-year-old Republican, who was a 2008 presidential nominee, was diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma last year.

His family said he had since “surpassed expectations for his survival”.

But they added: “The progress of the disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict.”
