TV bosses are bringing some magic back to our screens – with a remake of 1960s classic sitcom Bewitched.

The US comedy was one of the biggest shows in the world during its eight-year run from 1964 to 1972.

Disney-owned ABC has decided to give it a 21st century revamp. The show originally featured Elizabeth Montgomery as witch and housewife Samantha Stephens, who had a magic twitching nose.

The new version will feature the secret witch as a black single mum who falls for a goofy white mortal called Darrin. The original poked fun at the assumptions people made about housewives.

And the new version is going to highlight race relations in the US today. An insider said: “She will be

literally magic – but she still won’t be as powerful as a white man with a full head of hair in modern America.”

The reboot is being written by Kenya Barris, who created hit US TV comedy Black-ish.

Nicole Kidman previously took on the role for the 2005 film remake.

Elizabeth died from colon cancer aged just 62 in 1995.
