A bid to land female pilots

-

Girls as young as 10 should be dreaming of becoming pilots, easyJet believes.

So the airline has launched a national recruitment campaign aimed at schoolgirls.

Around 13% of new pilots joining the firm are women. The aim is to boost that to 20% by 2020.

A survey of 500 easyJet pilots found 55% of male flyers wanted to do the job by age 10.

But most women only started considering it as a career at 16.

Chris Browne, easyJet’s chief operations officer, said: “Changing perceptions and ambitions for women starts in school.”

Workers leaving definedbenefit pension schemes could see their payouts reduced.

A letter sent from the Pensions Regulator to DB schemes urges trustees to think about whether the cash lump sums they offer to staff considering transferring out of their schemes are too generous.

The letter is part of efforts to protect scheme members from unsuitable transfers and pension scams.
