Salmond: I’m quitting while I clear name

- BY TOM DAVIDSON

ALEX Salmond has resigned from the SNP while he fights allegations of sexual harassment while he was party leader.

He said last night he has quit to avoid a party split and that current leader Nicola Sturgeon was under pressure to suspend him.

Mr Salmond, 63, said he would be seeking to rejoin when he clears his name.

He also launched crowdfunding for his court challenge to the Scottish Government over how it handled an investigation.

He tweeted: “Confidentiality has been broken greatly to my detriment.”

It is claimed he asked a female member of staff into a bedroom at the leader’s residence in 2013 and made sexual advances.

He strenuously denies the allegations.
