Look after our animals

-

The news that ‘shock collars’ for cats and dogs are to be banned in England is a great victory for true animal lovers across the nation. It’s an absolute disgrace that these ‘training accessories’ were ever legal in the first place.

The collars are barbaric, unnecessary, and downright cruel. If you want to train your beloved little pet, you befriend them, gain their trust and gently coax them into doing what is required, without the need to subject them to electro-shock therapy.

This ban has come not a moment too soon. And now England must follow the rest of the UK and ban electric fencing as well – keeping it under consideration is not good enough. We’re supposed to be a nation of animal lovers, so let’s start acting like it. Ashley J Smith, March, Cambs
