ROSE: POCH FAITH IN ME IS MASSIVE

-

DANNY ROSE has thanked Mauricio Pochettino for his “massive” show of faith in picking him against Manchester United on Monday.

“Monday night was massive for me,” said Rose (above). “Even though there is speculation, the manager still trusts and believes in me to put me into such a massive game, where he didn’t need to change anything.

“For me, over the last four or five years we’ve worked together, Monday is probably the biggest thing that he has done for me.

“I have to thank him because it would have been easy for him not to play me, given the speculation. If I’m called upon, I’m going to give everything, like I did on Monday.

“And, if I’m here past Friday, which I’m expecting to be, it will be great. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve at the end of the season.

“Me and the manager have had a conversation over the phone, as well as two one-hour meetings over the last couple of weeks. We’re both aware of the situation.” Rose remaining at Tottenham would help Pochettino (below) with a Champions League headache. He has just 22 players on his A-list squad for Europe because of a lack of home-grown players – Eric Dier does not count as he grew up in Portugal – and losing Rose would reduce the Tottenham manager’s options even further. The club’s success in the Champions League last season means they are in Pot 2 as they attempt to reach the knockout stages for the third time in four attempts. They have already notified UEFA that they will have to play their opening home game at Wembley. But they remain in dialogue about returning to White Hart Lane later in the competition, despite competition regulations that state “in principle” they expect clubs to stick with the same home ground throughout.
