A DRIVER who clocked up a record 144 points has been handed a three-year ban.

Ashley Peart, 27, got six points each for 24 offences of failing to say who was driving cars caught by speed cameras.

A ban kicks in after just 12 penalty points.

Four cars registered in Peart’s name were caught breaking the limit 24 times in Essex, from July to December.

Peart failed to tell police who was driving the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series, Ford Focus and Ford Focus Sport. Magistrates in Southend also told him to pay £2,320 in fines and costs. At his home in Westcliff, Essex, Peart said he had bought temporary insurance to borrow the cars from friends. He had no idea how many of the 24 tickets were actually his. He said: “There is a possibility maybe five or 10 could be me, but they are not all me. I can’t prove which is which so I had to plead guilty. “I was not expecting a threeyear ban. That’s a long time.”
