Cuts to hit our elderly

-

IF a society is judged by how it treats its elderly then we are failing as a country.

The crisis in social care means far too many people are not receiving the support and dignity they deserve in old age.

And this situation is only going to get worse with our ageing population.

A report today finds that the number of pensioners who will requiring 24-hour care is set to increase to more than a million within the next two decades.

The Government cannot hide from this issue any longer.

The alarm bells have been ringing constantly about the need for a decent, affordable and sustainable system of social care. Instead of taking action, the Tories have cut the amount spent by £6billion since they came to power.

We are now living the consequences of this as councils struggle to provide care and the NHS is put under even further pressure.
