A GOODWIN FOR WOLVES

Bryson’s five-try blitz crushes hapless Hull

- BY JULIE STOTT

Warrington 80 Hull FC 10 BRYSON GOODWIN led the charge as Warrington bounced back from their Wembley misery in devastating style.

They have only one trophy left to fight for after their heartbreaking defeat by Catalans in Saturday’s Challenge Cup final.

But, judging by this ruthless victory, they look hell-bent of chasing down that Grand Final silverware.

Centre Goodwin (right) ripped in for five tries, with seven other players joining in the 14-try rout.

There were absolutely no signs of a hangover as they went gunning for vengeance straight from the opening whistle. Josh Charnley raced over for his 209th try in 215 RL appearances in three minutes. Hull cancelled that out with a try by Fetuli Talanoa but after that the Wolves tries came thick and fast against a side who have lost nine games out of 11.

Poor defence was to blame for both of Toby King’s first-half tries, the second coming on the back of an embarrassing mix-up between Jamie Shaul and Talanoa.

Three players also failed to stop Jack Hughes from barging over, but there was little they could do about Warrington’s other two first-half tries. Both were scored by Goodwin on the back of terrific build-up play, particularly from Kevin Brown and Tom Lineham. The Kiwi continued to go for Hull’s throats in the second half and within five minutes he had clocked up two more tries. At least a try from Josh Griffin gave Hull fans something to cheer. But Joe Philbin, Charnley and Tyrone Roberts kept the scoreboard ticking along. Lineham, Stefan Ratchford and Goodwin piled on the misery with more tries, with Roberts kicking 12 from 14 goals in a record Super League defeat for Hull.
