Thomson is a Made man

THE opening-round lead of the Made in Denmark tournament has been claimed by Jonathan Thomson.

Thomson fired the lowest round of his European Tour career yesterday, while all three Ryder Cup hopefuls struggled to make an impact.

The Englishman, 22, got an eightunder-par 64 at Silkeborg Ry Golf Club and said: “It’s fantastic to get off to a great start.”

In the race for the final automatic Ryder Cup spot, English pair Matthew Fitzpatrick and Eddie Pepperell have so far failed to dislodge local hero Thorbjorn Olesen from pole position.
