SUNNY Lyme Regis yesterday

SUMMER makes a comeback this weekend with temperatures set to soar.

The South East will see highs of 25C tomorrow and it could reach 23C as far north as York.

Today is due to be dry with bright or sunny spells in central and eastern areas but there will be patchy light rain in the west.

Despite today being the start of meteorological autumn, high pressure will draw in warm air from the continent.

The Met Office’s Marco Petagna said: “We can expect highs of 24C or 25C and maybe slightly higher on Monday.”

But, even with the astronomical summer continuing until the September 23 solstice, the heat won’t last. It will be cooler later in the week and rain will hit much of the UK on Tuesday.

Holidaymakers were yesterday making the most of the improved weather. Thousands flocked to Bournemouth for the first day of its annual air festival where the RAF’s Red Arrows staged a spectacular display.
